Significant enhancement in the electrical conductance properties of ethylene propylene diene monomer using the nano‐SiO <sub>2</sub> particles

To study the effect of nano-silica particles on conductivity characteristics ethylene propylene diene monomer (EPDM) insulation, EPDM nanocomposites with different mass fractions nano silica were prepared via melt-blending method. Scanning electron microscopy was used to analyze dispersion nanoparticles in EPDM. Based Fourier-transform infrared spectrum, bonding properties between and analyzed. The steady-state current at 30–100 °C 1–20 kV/mm measured. Moreover, characteristic experimental results show that as content increases, electrical nanocomposite well threshold field strength gradually decreases. Samples a small number will increase activation energy carrier conductivity, interface region introduced by reduce mobility concentration, resulting lower conductivity. Comparing calculated value dielectric constant measured can conclude high-field conductance process is combination electrode body effect, which this case, Schottky dominates.
